ion theatre presents Cabaret
Set in 1930s Berlin, Cabaret centers around struggling American writer Clifford Bradshaw who seeks inspiration for his next novel. On his first night in Berlin, Cliff wanders into the Kit Kat Klub, a seedy nightclub overseen by the strange, omniscient and gender-bending Master of Ceremonies, “the Emcee.” Here, Cliff meets Sally Bowles, a vivacious cabaret performer with whom he begins a relationship, which blossoms into a dream-like romance.
The inexorable drumbeat of war grows louder as Berlin morphs from exciting and vital to ominous and violent. Eventually Cliff, Sally and their contemporaries are swept up in the chaos as the continent marches inevitably toward a dangerous social and political precipice.
