The Roustabouts Theatre Co presents A Jewish Joke....A Drama About Comedy
A comedy-drama that is as relevant today as it was during the McCarthy Era. This award-winning one-man show starring Phil Johnson tells the tale of a curmudgeonly Jewish comedy screenwriter from MGM who comes up against the Communist blacklist in 1950’s Hollywood. Armed with stories about the great era of Jewish humor, this poignant solo comedy-drama shows one small man facing the tough American events of the mid-20th century.
Bernie learns firsthand that to be named a communist was the kiss of death to reputations, and careers, ruined by a whisper. He has one day to decide if he will accede to government demands and save his skin, or protect his friend and save his soul, in the most serious decision of his life. A story for all. This is a funny, heartfelt, and compelling drama about comedy.
