Mounarath Powell Dance is excited to present its fall concert “New York Rhapsody” as a start to their 16th season. Artistic Director Spencer John Powell will present his work from 1994 NYC – “the concrete jungle”. See vivid imagery come to life through movement that celebrates the architecture, vibrant skyline, and inhabitants of New York City.
Powell’s 2015 work, Il Adore, will be danced by MPD soloist James LaRose. Additionally, Powell will be celebrating his lifelong friendship to Kai Crandall who passed away a year ago, with a piece entitled “Kai-Wei”. They shared a deep love for New York and had a strong relationship over 40 years long.
Master teacher, Khamla Somphanh will premiere, Unyielding Canvas, which was created in collaboration with the dancers of MPD and explores the perspectives and gains inspiration from the birth of New York City’s graffiti art scene.
