Celebrating a world-class exhibit featuring the work of Toulouse-Lautrec, San Diego Ballet presents I Love Paris, an ebullient, sparkling, and chic production, alongside the premiere of the reimagined Debussy Dances. Both works pay tribute to French Impressionism in music and visual art, set to the compositions of Claude Debussy. In the Director’s Notes, the choreographer shares a deep love for Paris, which inspired the creation of I Love Paris after discovering a narrated recording of “La Vie en Rose” that journeys through Parisian neighborhoods. This lively, jazzy ballet captures the city’s charm and spirit. The program also honors Impressionism as a movement that transformed artistic expression and influenced artists like Degas. Debussy Dances reflects this legacy through evocative music and imagery, from Clair de Lune to Afternoon of a Faun, inviting audiences to experience beauty, emotion, and presence.
